Metaverse - a game in the future or already a reality?

Metaverse, metasuit, NFT tokens – a year ago no one could have imagined that they would be at the top of search queries. We at Skteam decided to analyze the situation on supply and demand.

Reasons for low popularity among users
In Russia, VR immersion devices are not as accessible as we would like, and those offered to ordinary users can only be seen in children's playrooms in shopping centers.

But the main problem is that it is impossible to stay in VR helmets for a long time. The reasons are too large pixels and a low refresh rate of the image, which our eyes perceive with great strain, and, as a result, we get a headache after an hour of such a stay.

The essence of the metaverse concept is the immersion of the user in a non-existent world that cannot be touched (although we know that developments are already underway to create a metasuit that can transmit tactile sensations). So far, only Meta has voiced its intentions on this matter, but due to constant scandals about data leaks on Facebook and other indecent incidents, trust or a more serious attitude to this topic is still small. A similar mistrust was also towards NFT art.

Digital images and cult memes for millions of dollars were also not initially perceived as something adequate. It is worth noting that the process of accepting the metaverse as a normal phenomenon like sitting in TikTok or watching YouTube will not be able to enter our lives so soon.

The reason is that until there is more personal interest from users, it will be introduced into everyday life very slowly. For example, using the metaverse for work - here corporate financial interest already appears. But while it is positioned at the level of replacing social networks - people will be reluctant to spend money on it. This does not apply to the gaming environment, because this audience will always invest in new products.

Brands are now enjoying the popularity of the very concept of "metaverse" and are implementing it in their marketing campaigns. But for now we see this only as a way to hype, declare oneself, or warm up the audience before the release of a new product. Recently, the media wrote that a company has appeared in Russia that is creating its own metaverse. This is a computer game developer from Yakutsk "MyTona". They are developing an app for communication in virtual spaces, where they promise users the ability to hold virtual meetings with friends, travel to different social hubs (worlds), and later create their own virtual stores to sell goods and services.

Back in November, following Meta, Microsoft announced that it was planning to create its own metaverse. To do this, they bought the game publisher Activision Blizzard. The game developer's CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed this in an email to his employees, in which he said that this was the first step towards creating a metaverse.
How much does it cost to enter the metaworld?
At the moment, neither in Russia nor in the world do technologies exist for creating convenient and affordable devices for immersion in the metaverse. In order to get into it, you need to buy a VR helmet and a laptop/PC. The entry threshold is on average 300 thousand rubles. The helmet will cost 150 thousand, and on average - 150 thousand for a gaming laptop/computer equipped with a powerful video card that can work with this helmet. And even those helmets that now cost 150 thousand have a resolution of 1080p and a frequency of 60-90 Hz. And for a comfortable stay, you need a resolution of 4K for each eye and at least 140 Hz. Developments are underway, but there are no devices on the open market yet.

The metaverses themselves already exist. For example, this is Decentraland (a decentralized platform in virtual reality, which consists of 90,601 land plots). There are already exhibitions of NFT art and concerts of world stars there. And the state of Barbados has acquired a "plot of land" in Decentraland, where it opened its embassy. However, for the reasons stated above, there are very few users in this metaverse. With the advent of accessible devices for entry, everything may change dramatically.
Are Metaverses Worth Investing In?
Investments in the metaverse are currently only relevant through staking and farming, but this is if you support the metaverse through blockchain investments. Receiving coins that the metaverse project issues into the blockchain sphere does not guarantee that these coins will be traded on leading CEX and DEX exchanges, which will lead to their depreciation and make investments illiquid.

Now the best option would be to enter as an investor into projects that will provide cheap access to the metaverse itself through classic generally accepted investment methods, such as buying shares of VR companies, for example Oculus.
It is already safe to call 2020 the year our lives transitioned online. It is unlikely that anyone could have imagined this a year earlier...
